Team Leader, Mali

is a nonprofit international development organization that delivers technical
and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise
development, community development and food security in order to promote
broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil society. ACDI/VOCA currently has
approximately 76 projects in 41 countries and revenues of $100 million.
Position Description:
We are currently
seeking a Food for Progress Team Leader for a three-year USDA Food for Progress
program in Mopti, Mali, with an anticipated start date for activities in
January 2010. The project focuses on improving food security through increased
production, diversification of crops as well as enhanced household revenues
through participation in selected value chains. The position will be based in
Mopti.
Responsibilities:
•General
management: Manage the overall ACDI/VOCA component of the program and program
deliverables, including coordination with the prime recipient; compliance with
USDA rules and regulations and local government requirements and laws;
financial and administrative management; monitoring and evaluation; and
development of project reports, success stories, and work plans.
•Financial management: Oversee financial accounting of monetization proceeds
with accounting staff. Work with headquarters staff on development of budgets,
pipeline analyses and estimated income projections from monetization.
•Value chain analysis: Coordinate analyses and promote the value chain approach
to better integrate farmers in the Mopti region into key value chains,
including rice and horticulture. Coordinate stakeholders workshops and
information sharing with key partners
•Market linkages: Develop relationships with buyers in urban areas to identify
commodity specifications and marketing requirements. Provide training and
technical support in farming as a business, association development and
post-harvest handling. Assist farmers in meeting market demands and in developing
relationships between project beneficiaries and key market stakeholders.
•Monetization and commodity management: In coordination with the D.C.-based
ACDI/VOCA technical director for commodity management, assume responsibility
for ACDI/VOCA monetization activities in Mali; monitor systems of control,
accounting and reporting on commodities and proceeds; and supervise commodity
calls forward and shipping.
•Monitoring and evaluation: Oversee and ensure timeliness of monitoring and
evaluation activities and develop necessary reports for donor and ACDI/VOCA
management. Manage final evaluation process.
•Reporting: Coordinate activities and prepare annual results report, resource
requests, quarterly reports and pipeline analyses. Coordinate with headquarters
on development of profiles, success stories, etc.
•New Business: As possible, as requested by headquarters, assist in the design
and development of other ACDI/VOCA proposals in Mali or other countries.
Qualifications:
•University degree
in related field (e.g., project management, international development,
international business, economics, etc.) is required; master’s degree is highly
desirable.
•At least 5 years of experience working in international development; overseas
experience on similar donor-funded projects in Mali or the region preferred.
•Experience with the value chain approach and integration of smallholder
farmers into market systems required. Familiarity with rice and horticulture
preferred.
•Familiarity with USDA Foreign Agricultural Service procedures and policies.
•Demonstrated proficiency in field work, project management, and monitoring and
evaluation methods.
•Excellent writing and reporting skills in English and fluency in French
required.

a Political Organizer to work in our Sacramento office who lives and breathes
for political action. This person
coordinates the political action activities of our membership, develops
fund-raising activities and prepares officers, staff and members to interact with
elected officials. S/he also recruits
state employees to act as volunteer advocates for issues related to providing
public services and improving the public’s opinion of the value of government
and its programs.
Duties:

coordinate election campaigns, including voter identification and GOTV efforts.
•Train members and staff to build relationships with community leaders and
elected officials.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have:
•Two (2) years
experience managing political or union organizing campaigns, elections, or
community organizing.
•Prior experience
recruiting and developing volunteers.
•Leadership and motivational skills.
•Effective written, verbal and listening skills.
•Ability to establish and maintain rapport and credibility with diverse
demographic groups, as well as with professional, technical, administrative and
service workers.
•Proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point, Access and database management.
•Experience working with tight timelines under pressure and minimal
supervision.
•Occasional overnight travel required.
•Valid driver's license, car and insurance.
•Ability to work long and irregular hours.
•Bachelor’s degree required.
