Canvass Director
Work for Progress
Location: multiple locations, USA
Background
Millions of Americans are demanding that our country move in a new direction — a more progressive direction. But whether we seize the moment or blow our chance depends on what decision-makers hear from the people.
That's why we started Progressive Future and that’s why we’re hitting the streets, getting online and on the phone, going door-to-door and organizing volunteers to make sure that decision-makers hear from progressive Americans who want to bring our troops home, ensure health care for all, invest in a stronger education system and take serious steps to stop global warming.
Progressive Summer: A progressive future starts this summer
Progressive Future is running a large-scale grassroots program this fall to make sure that a progressive voice is heard in 2008. Our canvassing operation will go city to city, town to town, street to street and household to household to reach community leaders, local officials, activists and the general public. When we find people who support better health care, a stronger education system, steps to curb global warming and other reforms, we’ll ask them to volunteer to join our growing movement of activists and professional staff to make sure our collective voice is heard loud and clear by decision-makers in 2008 and beyond.
Job Description
From June to August, you will run a citizen outreach office with one to six co-directors, in a city where experts agree the media will be focusing particular attention this fall. You will be responsible for building a locally based activist organization from the ground up by hiring and training a staff of paid canvassers who will identify support for our issues, build membership, recruit volunteers, and raise funds for Progressive Future.
You will be responsible for recruiting, training, managing, and motivating a staff of 10-60 paid canvassers. You will run ongoing trainings with your staff, and take responsibility for administering the office.
You will canvass three shifts each week to train staff in the field, identify potential volunteers and raise money.
Qualifications
We are looking for smart, motivated, action-oriented college graduates and interested others with a strong commitment to progressive causes. Candidates should be ready to take on lots of responsibility, learn quickly, hit ambitious goals and be willing to work as long and hard as it takes to get the job done. Training will be extensive and will include classroom training and ongoing field trainings.
We are specifically looking for people who seek advancement into other roles within the organization this fall and beyond.
Locations
Progressive Future is hiring motivated candidates for the following locations: NH, PA, VA, FL, OH, MI, IA, CO, NV, NM and WI.
Training
Canvass directors will participate in on-the-job training and classroom trainings throughout the course of their time on staff. Expect to learn how to manage a team, train staff, handle administration, and fundraise.
