Position Description and Responsibilities

•Provide fundamental support to the Senior Director of Science Policy and Government Relations and the Washington office staff.
•Assist in planning successful off-site meetings in Washington and other cities in addition to researching accommodations, preparing event budgets, coordinating travel arrangements, constructing timelines for the production and dissemination of meeting materials, and serving as first point of contact for VIP guests and award recipients.
•Coordinate Hill events, including congressional briefings and outreach, and the annual meeting of the Science Policy and Legislative Affairs Committee.
•Prepare written correspondence and meeting notes.
•Handle incoming telephone calls and respond to routine inquiries. Manage routine maintenance and repairs of the office equipment.
•Assist in drafting issue briefs and summary sheets on federal cancer-related legislation and collaborate on writing testimony, position statements, and calls-to-action regarding National Institutes of Health appropriations and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services coverage.
•Assist in crafting plans for the Washington office's strategic initiatives.
•Work with staff to organize and maintain files and other relevant documentation in an organized and timely manner.
•Train and supervise interns and volunteers
•Act as operations liaison with the Philadelphia office
•Perform the essential functions of the position and other related duties as assigned

Position Requirements

•BA or BS Degree
•Familiarity with Capitol Hill and the basic legislative process
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Strong interpersonal skills
•Excellent organizational and administrative skills
•Ability to productively and effectively function while unsupervised, and as part of a team
•Ability to meet frequent deadlines, multitask, and work well under pressure
•PC, word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs
