About Us
UNITE HERE is known throughout the labor movement for innovative and effective campaigns utilizing corporate campaign strategies and impressive grassroots mobilization of workers and community allies to win justice for low-wage workers in the service-sector (in hotels, gaming, food service, laundries, and apparel manufacturing, distribution, and retail). Through organizing and winning good contracts, UNITE HERE members have made hundreds of thousands of traditionally low-wage jobs into good, family-sustaining, middle class jobs. UNITE HERE boasts a diverse membership - largely Latino and Asian immigrants and African Americans – with a majority being women.
Description
UNITE HERE is developing a national campaign to win greater rights and opportunities for immigrant workers, and to build solidarity among workers of all backgrounds. We are seeking a dedicated person to help to develop all aspects of our campaign, including a strong research component.
Position Responsibilities will include:
-Working very closely with the Immigration Campaign Director and Coordinator to develop the goals and strategy of the campaign
-Developing and supporting our union's effort to unify our membership in support of immigrants’ rights
-Working with political allies to develop local, state, and national initiatives
-Collaborating with local and national immigrants' rights groups and other unions
-Working with UNITE HERE members, organizers, and regional staff, as well as community members and elected leaders, to move campaigns forward.
Desired Qualifications:
Activist experience and demonstrated commitment to immigrant and workers’ rights; excellent research, writing, analytical and interpersonal skills; willingness to travel and work long hours; ability to effectively manage a workload with competing priorities and deadlines in fast-changing situations; ability to work independently and take initiative; bilingual Spanish/English.
