Legal Affairs Researcher/ Project Coordinator

The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is a non-profit consumer organization conducting innovative programs in nutrition, alcohol policy, and food safety. CSPI publishes Nutrition Action Healthletter, the nation's largest-circulation health newsletter. CSPI strives to provide useful, impartial information to the public, represent citizens' interests before legislative, regulatory, and judicial bodies, and ensure that advances in science are used for the public's good. CSPI is supported by its 900,000 subscribers to Nutrition Action Healthletter and foundation grants.

Currently CSPI is seeking an individual to conduct research covering a variety of different areas of public policy using both electronic and library based methods and to summarize findings in the form of memoranda, fact sheets and letters. Duties also include coordination of grassroots lobbying efforts and of media contacts, as well as drafting of letters, reports, and comments on food safety and nutrition issues. Researcher will also keep legal staff abreast of postings on the Federal Register, FDA, FTC, international agencies like the World Health Organization and other relevant web sites. Some clerical work such as faxing, filing, copying, is involved as well.

Candidates must have a 4 year related degree and at least two years of research experience (or advanced degree and one year of experience). Demonstrated interest in law, nutrition, or health advocacy is a plus. Successful candidate will be a highly organized individual with excellent verbal and written skills. Good computer skills in Word, WP, Lotus, PowerPoint, Excel, and Internet browsers are also required. This position was posted on the date listed below and is open until filled.
