Working Families is New York State’s community and labor-based political party. As a political party with a real, active base among working people, the WFP runs against the grain of today’s media-driven, money-drenched politics.
Working Families was formed by community organizers, union leaders and thousands of individuals who believe that New York State should belong to all the people – not just the wealthy and well-connected. We are an independent, multi-racial progressive political alliance working through elections and legislative campaigns to advance the issues important to poor, working and middle-class New Yorkers – living wages, housing, health care, fair taxes, clean elections and on and on…We are egalitarian and social democratic in orientation.
The Online Organizer will execute online campaigns and maintain and update the Working Families Party website and blog.
Responsibilities:
•Creating and planning online communications and political strategies with the WFP’s network of almost 100,000 on-line supporters.
•Helping the WFP tell its story online and grow our supporter base.
•Developing new website content on the WFP’s issues and electoral work.
•Maintaining and writing for the WFP’s Blog, and guest-blogging on well-known New York political blogs.
•Working with other staff to coordinate message on WFP issue and electoral campaigns.
•Fundamentally, figuring out how to combine the WFP’s strength in off-line organizing with the power of on-line politics.
Qualifications:
Following qualifications are a must: a demonstrated commitment to economic and social justice; good, fast writing skills; ability to multitask; willingness to work hard (can include nights & weekends); accountability to goals; ability to learn quickly; energy and enthusiasm for social change.
Prior experience in online organizing a plus but not required. Design experience, union, community, or political organizing experience also a plus.
