Foreign Policy for America (FP4A)
Foreign Policy for America (FP4A) is a national organization advocating for principled American engagement in the world. Together with our members and partners, we promote sound policies, hold elected officials accountable for their votes and actions, and elect champions for our values. The Foreign Policy for America family of organizations includes FP Action Network, our federal political action committee, and Foreign Policy for America Foundation, our 501(c)(3) educational arm. The Political Director is a permanent position, with an expected commitment through the 2020 election cycle.
The Political Director is responsible for setting the strategic political course for FP4A to help elect strong champions for our values.
The Political Director will oversee the FP4A federal endorsement process, guiding candidates and campaign teams through the process. This includes interviewing candidates, advising them about elements of a principled foreign policy, and collaborating with our Communications Director to publicize endorsements.
Design, manage, and execute our federal PAC budget and plan for each election cycle. The Political Director will also build relationships with the candidates and campaigns, including attending candidate fundraisers and related events – often before or after business hours.
Recruit, advise, and support the active participation of FP4A Finance Committee members, together with the Executive Director. Some travel required.
Collaborate with the Outreach Director to set and pursue fundraising goals for endorsed candidates through events, the FP Action Network online portal, and e-mail solicitations.
Serve as the lead point of contact for federal incumbents seeking reelection.
Draft materials required for FP4A’s endorsements and stakeholder briefings.
Contribute to organization-wide strategic planning and assist with other projects as assigned.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starting, entrepreneurial thinker with senior experience working on political campaigns and/or advocacy organizations.
Work experience: At least 5-7 years of work experience on candidate campaigns, with PAC management, or fundraising. Experience working with team members to achieve program goals. Experience working with elected officials and their staff.
Skills: Strong research, written, and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills including ability to conduct interviews with high-ranking elected officials and other candidates. Must be highly organized and detail oriented. Must be proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Capabilities: Solid judgment, strategic thinking, a sense of teamwork and community, ability to handle multiple tasks, ability to function in a demanding and fast paced environment, ability to maintain confidentiality, and political fluency. Familiarity with foreign policy issues is a plus.
Salary in the range of $80,000 - 100,000; includes benefits package. Salary for this position will be commensurate with skills and experience. Applicants with less experience will be considered and the position can be adapted accordingly.
