Foreign Policy for America (FP4A)
Foreign Policy for America (FP4A) is a national organization advocating for principled American engagement in the world. Together with our members and partners, we promote sound policies, hold elected officials accountable for their votes and actions, and elect champions for our values. The Foreign Policy for America family of organizations includes FP Action Network, our federal political action committee, and Foreign Policy for America Foundation, our 501(c)(3) educational arm. The Policy Associate is a permanent position. FP4A advocates for foreign policy that keeps Americans safe and out of conflicts, promotes shared prosperity, and is true to our country’s values.
The Policy Associate contributes to FP4A’s advocacy work by researching three priority issues – Iran, North Korea, and nuclear arms control – and producing written and other content to advance our goals.
Monitor breaking news, with a focus on Iran, North Korea, and nuclear arms control, including international events and executive branch actions.
Closely track legislative activity related to priority issues, including legislation, hearings, and floor debate.
Develop material for web-based issue pages, e-mail content, social media, and other products.
Coordinate with external stakeholders, including issue experts and representatives from allied organizations, to achieve shared goals.
Assist with other efforts as assigned.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starting, entrepreneurial thinker with a solid understanding of American foreign policy and legislative activity related to at least one of the three priority issues.
Work experience: Research and/or work experience related to at least one of the priority issues. Experience working in a team setting. Experience developing social media content to achieve organizational goals is a plus. Experience coordinating with allied organizations to achieve shared goals is a plus. Capitol Hill experience is a plus.
Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Must be highly organized and detail oriented. Must be proficient in Word; familiarity with social media and email marketing platforms is a plus, though not required.
Capabilities: Solid judgment, a sense of teamwork and community, ability to handle multiple tasks, ability to function in a demanding and fast paced environment, ability to maintain confidentiality, and interest in Congress and foreign policy. Strong understanding of at least one of the three priority issues is a must.
Salary in the range of $35,000 - 50,000; includes benefits package. Salary for this position will be commensurate with skills and experience. Applicants with more experience will be considered and the position can be adapted accordingly.
