Emerge America is actively recruiting for a dynamic leader with expertise in development. The Director of Development will serve as the organization’s chief fundraising strategist, working to build a powerful network and grow the organization’s financial capacity both nationally and locally with our 24 state (and growing) affiliates. The Emerge America Director of Development reports directly to the President and Founder of Emerge America, who has extensive fundraising experience on the local and national level. The Director of Development and the Emerge America President will work closely together to fundraise and develop fundraising strategy for Emerge America. This is a full-time position based in the Emerge America headquarters in San Francisco, CA.
The Emerge America Director of Development coordinates and takes primary responsibility for all individual, labor union, event and online fundraising activities of Emerge America. This position requires a sense of humor, absolute professionalism and an excellent ability to work as part of a team. Emerge America is seeking a person with high energy, ability to multi-task, great project management skills and incredible interpersonal skills. This position manages Emerge America’s growing development team. Working with the Emerge America President, the Director of Development works to:
Create and implement yearly fundraising plan;
Cultivate major donors;
Plan and execute Emerge America fundraising events across the country;
Develop fundraising materials, presentations and collateral;
Engage Board of Directors in targeted fundraising activities.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of seven years relevant experience;
Ability to develop trusted and effective working relationships with diverse and multi-cultural constituencies, including boards of directors, staff, donors, volunteers and a diverse array of supporters and stakeholders;
Experience and demonstrated skill in non-profit fundraising, including:
Creating a fundraising plan
Cultivating major donors
Building an individual donor fundraising program
Organizing successful fundraising events
Developing diverse and repeatable sources of income;
Experience planning large and small-scale events;
Experience managing staff;
Strong writing and communication skills;
Experience with multifaceted planning processes;
Demonstrated flexibility in problem-solving;
Proven track record of excellent follow-through and accountability;
Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred but not required:
Knowledge of women’s political leadership issues and political experience
Knowledge of the Bay Area donor community
Familiarity with database tools, NGPVAN, Basecamp, etc.
Experience with the Emerge program.
Job Schedule and Location
The Director of Development must be based in the Emerge America headquarters in San Francisco, because s/he will work closely with the Emerge America President. Some travel, evening and weekend work will be required.
