The Center for Global Development (CGD) seeks a savvy, dynamic Senior Associate for Policy Outreach to join its Migration, Displacement, and Humanitarian Policy (MDHP) and Policy Outreach teams. CGD is an independent, non-partisan think tank in Washington, D.C., that works to reduce global poverty and improve lives through innovative economic research that drives better policy and practice by the world’s top decision makers.

CGD actively promotes its research and analysis to policymakers, policy advocates, business leaders, the media and the public through an innovative online presence (website, blogs, e-mail newsletters), policy briefs, public education materials, media interviews, op-ed columns, events, working papers, and books.

The successful candidate will engage with a wide range of audiences, including—but not limited to—donor countries, the European Union, United Nations agencies, regional bodies, multilateral development banks, partner countries (e.g., refugee and migrant-hosting and sending countries), civil society organizations, and the US Congress. S/he will lead the development and implementation of policy outreach strategies for the MDHP program, specifically on topics including migration, forced displacement, refugees, humanitarian reform, and US and European global development and humanitarian policy. S/he will identify avenues for sharing CGD research findings and policy analyses that maximize policy impact and help produce materials and coordinate events to advance policy objectives. The candidate will report to the co-directors of the MDHP program with a dual reporting line to the Director of Policy Outreach.

Major Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Associate for Policy Outreach works with CGD's MDHP team in its overarching goal of increasing the impact of CGD’s work on migration, displacement, and humanitarian issues. Responsibilities include:

Under the direction of the MDHP co-directors, leading the development and implementation of outreach strategies for the overall MDHP program and work streams of individual experts, including proactively designing outreach plans to engage new audiences and break the mold for engaging existing audiences; stakeholder mapping and analysis; and identifying and cultivating windows of opportunity for policy impact.
Managing CGD outreach and fostering relationships with key audiences, sharing CGD’s research and analysis, developing targeted outreach materials that translate our work for a policy audience, establishing CGD experts as trusted resources, and creating and building upon opportunities to inform policy dialogues and outcomes.
Developing partnerships to amplify CGD’s research and analysis.
Providing strategic advice and supporting the creation of publications and events to showcase CGD’s research and relevant MDHP issues.
Assisting with the preparation of CGD Briefs and other materials on MDHP issues linked to CGD research, including writing, editing, and identification and articulation of key messages for the advocacy and policy community.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree related to migration, displacement, humanitarian affairs, economic development, international affairs, or a related topic.
Four to seven years of work experience in public policy, issue campaigns, government affairs, or policy work for a government, international organization, or other large institution. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in communications and outreach. Experience navigating complex policy environments and organizations (e.g., United Nations, European Union) and knowledge of refugee, immigration, or humanitarian issues a strong plus.
Proven ability to "translate" academic research into language and concepts accessible to target audiences are required. Superb editing and writing and a solid strategic and analytic sense are critical to success.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, multi-task, and work as a member of multiple teams. Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment. Proven record of possessing good judgment on sensitive issues. An entrepreneurial spirit and exceptional relationship and networking acumen.
