- Senior Vice President/North America Head of Government and Industry Affairs, USA
Zurich North America is currently looking for a Senior Vice President/North America Head of Government and Industry Affairs. This is an executive position and has a dual reporting structure to the Chief Legal Officer and Group Head of Communications & Public Affairs. This role develops and implements strategic and tactical objectives in the US and Canada, and has accountability at both the state and federal level. They will focus on both state and federal platforms to further the corporations' public policy agenda within those jurisdictions, including substantive policy analysis, political visibility campaigns, internal communication functions and legislative advocacy activities. This individual serves as primary spokesperson on government affairs activities within the aforementioned context, provides input to senior management on public policy matters, and coordinates corporate policy development process. This position supports our Commercial Insurance, Alternative Markets and our Global Life business in public policy affairs.
This position will also have responsibility for managing Zurich's public policy process on a regional level including the development of roles and public policy positions for general insurance issues. Position works closely with Group Public Affairs and other functions to align regional and global positioning. Make policy recommendations, based on in-depth issue analysis and identifies economic impact of various policy options. Must be able to manage the relationships of key internal stakeholders (technical and business experts,) and external stakeholders including government, regulatory and trade officials on Zurich's behalf. Lobby government agencies and regulators on issues impacting Zurich's interests, including writing position statements on proposed legislation or regulation. Attend organization and industry meetings' presenting the company’s position and developing coalitions and consensus approaches to problems. Applicant should be considered a lobbyist as well as a thought leader. Should be able to see the direction of the industry and stay ahead of the curve, positioning Zurich's goals as the industry's goals.
Bachelor’s Degree in Law or Political Science and 10 or more years of experience in the Government Affairs area
Experience in legislative advocacy and policy development
3 or more years of managing people and/or key stakeholder relationships
Supervisory or management experience
Advanced degree in political science, law or related field
Experience with both State and Federal platforms
Progressive experience in legislative advocacy and policy development
Ability to monitor legislative and regulatory developments, and to identify and articulate public policy trends
Extensive knowledge of the legislative process
Ability to develop and implement political visibility programs
Strong oral and written interpersonal communication skills, including public speaking
Excellent Management and Leadership skills with the ability to manage, develop, and motivate others
Senior level, project or campaign management skills in previous positions particularly in the insurance sector
Experience in working with senior executives or government officials, building and managing strong relationships
Ability to work in fast paced environment, to synthesize complex issues
Demonstrated deep ethical standards
Ability to work in team environment
International experience and Insurance or Financial Services Industry experience preferred
