Description –

This summer internship, beginning in June 2017, is a paid opportunity for undergraduate students in their junior year or senior year, recent college graduates or graduate students with an interest in the Middle East and North Africa region and U.S. policy towards the region.

This internship pays an hourly rate of $11.50, and applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum number of hours per week (no less than 30 hours per week, during regular business hours), with some flexibility around an academic course schedule. The internship will last approximately 10 weeks.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include providing research support, events coordination, and programmatic and administrative assistance to staff and scholars in the Center for Middle East Policy (CMEP). Interns will gain first-hand experience in public policy and international affairs by researching contemporary issues in the Middle East and supporting high-level conference preparations. Additional responsibilities include monitoring current developments in relevant research areas; assisting in the logistical planning and implementation of roundtables and other meetings; proofreading, fact-checking, and editing research materials; compiling and updating mailing and invitation lists; briefing CMEP staff members; and providing general administrative support.

Interns will have the opportunity to attend internal meetings, local think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events as well as participate on Brookings sports teams and network with other interns throughout the Institution.

Qualifications:

Education/Knowledge/Skills

Graduate or undergraduate student (who has completed their sophomore year) working towards a degree in a relevant field (i.e. international relations, area studies, political science). Recent college graduates are also eligible to apply.

Qualified applicants will have a demonstrated interest in the Middle East and North Africa and strong research, writing, and editing skills. Experience providing administrative support and coordinating events is highly desirable. English fluency is required; proficiency in a regional language is preferred.

Additional Information:

Successful completion of a background investigation is required for interning at Brookings.
